Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know to prepare for your stay in Bwindi

Do I need a permit?

Yes. A gorilla trekking permit is required and must be secured in advance. We can help arrange this for you when you book your stay. Permits are limited each day to protect the gorilla families.

What should I pack?

Good boots that can handle mud. A light rain jacket even in the dry season. Long trousers and long sleeves for the nettles. Bring a warm fleece for the cool mountain evenings.

Is it for families?

Many experiences are perfect for families. Nature walks and cultural visits welcome all ages. Gorilla trekking has a minimum age of fifteen years. The hike can be strenuous.

When is the best time?

The dry months of June to August and December to February offer easier walking. The wet season brings fewer visitors and a greener, quieter forest. The gorillas are here year-round.

How fit must I be?

A reasonable level of fitness helps. The forest is steep and the altitude is real. But we move at the pace of the slowest walker. Porters are available to help carry your daypack.
